What does ERGO motor hull insurance cover?
Accident
We will indemnify the damage to or destruction of the vehicle or its part(s) as a result of a sudden and unforeseeable external force, including damage caused as a result of a traffic accident or collision with an animal or a bird.
We do not consider damage to the vehicle due to or during theft or robbery as an accident. In this situation, it is about the realisation of the risk of theft or robbery.
Natural disaster
We will indemnify the damage caused by storms, floods, hail or other extraordinary precipitation.
For example, during a storm, a tree or tree branch breaks and falls on a car, or the vehicle is injured during a hail storm.
Fire and explosion
We will indemnify the damage caused to the vehicle as a result of ignition, combustion, smoke, extinguishing work or explosion.
For example, a case where the vehicle itself does not burn, but the fire occurs near the vehicle and the vehicle is damaged by heat or other damage, is also subject to indemnification.
Vandalism
We will indemnify the damage caused to the vehicle as a result of the wrongful actions of third parties.
For example, in the morning you discover that someone has used your car to carry out an art project and written something on it, or the glass has been smashed.
Lifting on the road and towing of a vehicle
We will indemnify the necessary and justified expenses for lifting the vehicle onto the road and taking it to the nearest repair or storage facility in the event of an insured event (e.g., driving into a ditch, traffic accident). We will also indemnify any damage incurred when lifting or moving the vehicle onto the road in the course of reasonable and necessary actions.
If the vehicle has been destroyed due to an insured event occurring outside the Republic of Estonia, we will indemnify the justified costs of bringing the remains to Estonia to the extent agreed with us.

In the amount specified in the insurance contract, we will indemnify the damage caused to such accessories that have not been installed by the manufacturer’s factory, such as child safety equipment, bicycle racks, roof box, etc.

Theft and robbery
We will indemnify the damage caused by theft, robbery or attempted theft of the vehicle or its parts.

What does ERGO motor hull insurance cover?

What can you choose for extra cover?
In addition to the basic covers, you can choose additional covers that are suitable for you. This way you can create motor hull insurance that is tailored to your needs.
Glass cover
We will indemnify the vehicle’s glass for unexpected and sudden damage caused by external forces if the glass has to be repaired or replaced.
As an additional cover, you can choose a deductible for glass damage that differs from the main deductible.
If you do not choose a separate deductible for glass damage, the windows will still be covered by insurance, but if damage occurs, we will apply the basic deductible agreed in the contract to the glass replacement. We do not apply a deductible in case of glass repair.
Damage during loading
We will indemnify you for damage to or destruction of the vehicle, which has occurred during work involving the loading or unloading of the cargo or load.
For example, a dump truck tips sideways when dumping its load.
Luggage insurance
We will indemnify you for theft or robbery of luggage (personal belongings, such as sports equipment, clothing, etc.) that was in the locked luggage compartment of the passenger car or van, roof box or passenger compartment specified in the policy, as well as damage caused to the luggage as a result of sudden and unforeseeable external force (incl. a traffic accident), natural disaster, vandalism or fire.
We will not indemnify antique, unique or precious metal items, collections, manuscripts, money or securities, documents, tools, photographs, plans or drawings, computers (tablets, laptops, etc.) or electronic media, mobile phones or audio and video equipment.
Trailer cover
We will indemnify the damage caused to the trailer attached to the vehicle specified in the contract.
For example, you take a trailer to transport larger things, but due to bad weather conditions, you drive off the road and the trailer is damaged.
Running into an animal or bird
Damage caused when running into an animal or bird is always covered by accident cover. When choosing an additional cover, no deductible applies in these cases. Also in the case of damage caused as a result of avoiding running into someone if the event can be proven by means of an on-board camera.
For example, a moose suddenly ran onto the road and ended up in front of the car, resulting in a situation where the driver had to drive off the road to avoid a collision. Since the vehicle had an on-board camera that recorded the situation, we will indemnify the damage caused without applying the deductible.
Indemnification of car replacement cost (10%)
In the case of complete destruction, theft or robbery of the vehicle, we will indemnify an additional 10% of the market value of the vehicle for the costs of changing the car. This is the case even if your car has been destroyed as a result of a traffic accident and the market value of the car is indemnified on the basis of motor third party liability insurance.
For example, a car has been destroyed in an insured event and its market value is EUR 20 000. We will indemnify additionally EUR 2000, which you can use to cover the registration costs of a new vehicle, motor vehicle tax, leasing costs, etc.
Lease value cover
In the case of total destruction of the vehicle, we will indemnify the difference between the leasing value and the market value of the vehicle if the market value of the vehicle is less than the leasing value. This is also the case if you are the victim of a traffic accident and the market value of your car is indemnified by motor third party liability insurance.
For example, the car has been destroyed after an insured event, but the market value to be indemnified does not cover the leasing balance at that moment.
Technical failure insurance
We will indemnify the cost of eliminating an unexpected and unforeseeable failure of the vehicle’s engine, engine cooling system, engine control electronics, transmission cooling system, transmission control electronics, brake and steering system, if the mileage of the vehicle at the time of the insured event does not exceed 140,000 km and no more than seven (7) years have passed since the first registration of the vehicle. Maintenance and repair work on the vehicle must be carried out in a timely manner and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
However, if the vehicle is first registered outside the Republic of Estonia, the technical condition of the vehicle is certified by the official representative of the manufacturer’s factory in Estonia or a company accepted by us. The confirmation does not have to be submitted at the moment of concluding the contract, but it must be present and given to ERGO before the loss event occurs, but not earlier than 30 days before the insurance cover enters into force.
Vehicle accessory and alteration cover
If the standard accessory cover is not enough, it is useful to choose an additional limit on the sum insured for accessories, within which the accessories installed by the non-manufacturer of the passenger car or van and the alterations carried out are covered.
ERGO Replacement Vehicle
Free replacement vehicle for up to 60 days during the insurance period if the personal vehicle cannot be used in traffic after an accident. We will give you a car, so you do not have to spend time searching.
For example, it suddenly turned out that the delivery of a spare part needed for repairs is delayed, and the restoration of the vehicle takes longer. If the delay is justified, you can use the ERGO replacement car for up to 60 days.
Driver and passenger accident cover
We will indemnify the damage if the insured event that occurred with the insured vehicle has caused permanent disability to the driver or passengers who were in the vehicle, or caused the death of the driver or passengers in the vehicle.
New value cover
In the case of complete destruction or theft of the vehicle, we will indemnify the price of the first sale of the vehicle. If you paid a registration fee when purchasing the vehicle, this is also subject to indemnification. Also, if at the time of the incident you are obliged to pay the annual fee of the motor vehicle, we will indemnify the proportional part of the prepaid motor vehicle tax.
For passenger cars and vans, the new value cover is valid until the vehicle’s mileage of 30 000 km, but no longer than 12 months from the date of first registration. If the new vehicle continues to be insured with ERGO, it will be possible to extend the cover to a mileage of 40 000 km, but no longer than 24 months from the date of first registration.
For buses and lorries, the new value cover is valid until the mileage of 60 000 km, but no longer than 12 months from the date of first registration.
For trailers and motorcycles, the new value cover is valid for up to 12 months from the date of first registration.
For example, before the loss event, the vehicle had already been used for a year and 10 months and had covered 38 500 km. As the vehicle is covered by the new value cover, we will indemnify the purchase cost of the vehicle. If you also paid the registration fee and are obliged to pay motor vehicle tax, we will also indemnify their share in accordance with the terms and conditions. This is also the case if you are the victim of a traffic accident and the market value of your car is indemnified by motor third party liability insurance.
Legal assistance for vehicle owners
In the case of disputes and legal questions related to the insured vehicle, you can get advice and instructions from the ERGO legal assistance. To the extent of the sum insured specified in the policy, we help to cover legal expenses that may arise in the event of legal disputes related to the insured vehicle.
Legal assistance is covered, for example, in the following vehicle-related cases.
- The service provided by the repair shop turns out to be of poor quality and the repair company is unwilling to fix this.
- Recovery of damage caused by a pothole from the owner of the road.
- Damage is caused to the car at the car wash and the manager is not willing to compensate for it.
- Snow or ice falls on the vehicle from the roof of the building, and the owner of the building is not willing to compensate for the damage.
- A new car, for which you have entered into legal assistance insurance cover in addition to motor third party liability insurance within 7 days of purchase, reveals defects that the seller had concealed.
- The buyer of the vehicle you sold, which had additional legal assistance insurance cover at the time of sale, starts to request that the alleged defects of the vehicle be corrected.
- As a result of an accident, you have suffered proven damage that the motor third party liability insurance of the person who caused the damage does not have to compensate and the person who caused the damage is not ready to compensate.
What can you choose for extra cover?
In addition to the basic covers, you can choose additional covers that are suitable for you. This way you can create motor hull insurance that is tailored to your needs.
We will indemnify the vehicle’s glass for unexpected and sudden damage caused by external forces if the glass has to be repaired or replaced.
As an additional cover, you can choose a deductible for glass damage that differs from the main deductible.

To have an EUR 100 lower excess in the event of a motor hull insurance event, you need three different types of property insurance from ERGO. These include MTPL, motor hull, home, accident, repeated travel and legal expenses insurances.

ERGO’s motor hull insurance can only be taken out for one year.
We will conclude a motor hull insurance contract for the whole year. Various types of damage can also occur while the motorcycle is in storage. At the beginning of the season, it is difficult to predict how long the riding season will last. The climate can be changeable, hence the annual contract. The contract can be terminated after the end of the season by mutual agreement.
ERGO’s motor hull insurance can be taken out for vehicles up to 15 years old and motorcycles and ATVs up to 10 years old. If you already have a motor hull insurance with ERGO, you can extend it for a longer period.
You can pay for ERGO’s motor hull insurance in several ways, either in advance for the whole period or in instalments on a quarterly, half-yearly or monthly basis. The total amount does not change. The insurance period is always one year.

We will provide a replacement car for the duration of the repair, but we do not reimburse the cost of the car you have arranged yourself. We will arrange a car for you and, if you wish, bring it to the location of your choice. You do not have to search for a car yourself, use your own credit card or provide collateral. A replacement car can be used for up to 60 days per year. This only applies if the respective cover is selected.
If your car has become unroadworthy due to an insured event, ERGO will provide you with a replacement car as similar as possible free of charge after the claim has been registered, provided you have the appropriate insurance coverage.
ERGO insurance will compensate for reasonable damage to the glass parts of your vehicle. If the windscreen can be repaired, we will repair it, if not, we will replace it.
In the case of natural wear and tear resulting from normal use of the vehicle, the windscreen is not replaceable under a comprehensive insurance contract.
We will take the wishes of the vehicle user into account as much as possible and will not prevent repairs outside ERGO’s motor hull insurance partners, but in this case, not all costs may be covered. One of the reasons may be that the chosen workshop issues a quote that is higher than justified damage.
