What does accident insurance indemnify?

We will pay indemnity if the injury does not heal within one year. The severity and character of the disability assigned to the insured person is taken into account, not their profession, hobbies or way of life.

The indemnity is paid if the insured person dies within three (3) years as a result of an insured event caused by an accident.

The indemnity covers reasonable and justified medical treatment expenses incurred as a result of an accident, which are not reimbursed by the Estonian Health Insurance Fund.

The daily allowance indemnifies you for the loss of income for each day of treatment while the certificate of incapacity for work applies, regardless of whether it is treatment in a hospital or at home. To be eligible, treatment should last more than seven (7) days.

The indemnity for pain and suffering is paid once in the case of temporary damage to health lasting at least seven (7) days.

An accident is a personal injury or trauma caused by an external factor. Traumas can occur anywhere: at home, in the gym, at work, in traffic, etc. The most common traumas are fractures, concussions, stretches, tears, punctures, bites, burns, etc.

An accident means that a person suffers damage to their health as a result of trauma. In accident insurance, it is possible to choose different indemnities that help with both mild and permanent damage to health, and it is also possible to choose indemnity in case a person dies as a result of trauma.  

Life insurance is paid in the event of death of a person due to both illness and trauma.

Accident insurance protects you and your loved ones at critical moments from unexpected expenses and loss of income caused by trauma. For example, if a person has a certificate of incapacity for work as a result of trauma, their income will decrease, but bills, loan payments, living expenses, and additional medical treatment expenses will have to be paid. In this case, accident insurance will help.

Accident insurance can be taken out for all people between the ages of 1 and 70. Certainly, insurance should be considered by those whose profession or athletic activity is associated with some higher risk or who are the main recipients of income in the family.

The indemnities related to accident insurance are the following. 

  • Permanent disability indemnity is helpful if the injury has not healed during the year.  The amount of indemnity depends on the severity of the damage to health caused as a result of an accident and the amount of the sum insured selected in the contract.  
  • Indemnity for medical treatment expenses compensates for reasonable and justified medical expenses incurred as a result of an accident, which are not indemnified by the Estonian Health Insurance Fund.  
  • Daily allowance indemnifies for the loss of income for each day of treatment while the certificate of incapacity for work applies, regardless of whether it is treatment in a hospital or at home.  
  • The indemnity for pain and suffering is paid once in the case of temporary damage to health.  
  • Death indemnity is intended to prevent and alleviate the financial concerns of the insured person’s loved ones in the event of the death of the insured person.  

When concluding a contract, it is possible to choose precisely those indemnities and sums insured that meet the needs and capabilities of a person. If you are engaged in competitive sports or work in a risk-prone profession, this cover can be included in the contract.

For first aid, you need to call the emergency number 112 or contact the nearest emergency room. After receiving first aid or treatment, you can notify your insurance provider by filling in the loss report on the ERGO website.

The indemnities are paid to the insured person, the invoices for medical treatment expenses can be paid directly to the medical institution. In the event of death, the indemnity is paid to the legal heirs of the insured person or to the person specified in the insurance contract.

We insure children from the age of 1. We can also insure a child up to 1 year old with one parent. For insured children up to 17 years of age (inclusive), the insurance cover also applies during training (including combat sports, e.g., karate, judo, wrestling) at no extra cost. Children are also insured at no extra cost when doing extreme sports, such as horseback riding, karting, sailing, wakeboarding, and BMX biking.
